The Esplanade of Ministries


The dictionary defines an Esplanade as an “elevated and uncovered stretch of land, from where you have a good perspective”. From inside the Palace of the National Congress it is possible to understand the exactness of this definition.

Ample glass panels allow a view of an elevated terrain on which you find a collection of identical and regular building created by Oscar Niemeyer: The Ministries.

At the “Esplanade of the Ministries” we also find the Metropolitan Cathedral of Brasilia, idealized by Lucio Costa. And an extensive stretch of grass, used for popular manifestations, concerts and civic events, such as parades and shows
